The short version

July is the narrower, cheaper tool for a US manager with a handful of creators and a clear commission job to do. Herd costs considerably more and earns it only if you also want the brand side, contracts and e-signature, an email inbox, meetings and white-label client portals. For a UK agency, the GBP pricing matters too.

July is run from New York, US. It suits US talent managers with a small roster who want commission splits and payouts handled properly and do not need a brand side or a creator-facing product.

Herd is a UK product with three sides in one account. Creators run content, deals, contracts and invoices. Brands run campaigns, review content and pay creator invoices by card. Agencies run a roster with commission splits and white-label client portals. Herd costs £1,999/month for agencies, billed in pounds. That breadth is the whole trade: Herd covers more of the week, and in a few places it covers it less thoroughly than July does.

Feature by feature

Every line in the Herd column is a feature that works today. The July column is what its own site and the listings we read showed on 21 September 2026: a dash means we could not find the feature there, and a plan name in the Herd column is the plan the feature starts on.

Where July is stronger

Nothing below is a concession for the sake of looking fair. These are the parts of July that Herd either does not have or does less well, and if one of them is the deciding factor for you, buy July.

  • Purpose-built commission splits and invoicing for talent managers, which is exactly the job.
  • Auto-updating rosters, media kits and pitch decks, which saves a manager real hours.
  • Much cheaper for a small roster: $50 a month plus $6 a creator against £1,999 a month.
  • Slack support, listed on the Pro plan.

What Herd adds

The other direction. These are jobs Herd covers that we could not find in July's published feature list when we checked on 21 September 2026, taken from the same list as the table above, plus the differences in how the two are priced. Some of them sit on the higher Herd plans, and the pricing below says which.

  • No creator-facing product, so your creators cannot run their own content, invoices or inbox alongside you.
  • No brand side, so campaign invitations and approvals do not close the loop.
  • No social publishing, content calendar or video editor.
  • No Gmail or Outlook inbox and no in-app video meetings.
  • USD only, billed quarterly, with the upper tiers priced on request.
  • No client portal is listed on the pricing page.

Commission and payouts

Commission comes out of the payment, not out of a chase

When a brand pays a routed invoice, Stripe Connect splits it: the creator share goes to the creator, the agency share goes to the agency. Nobody invoices anybody afterwards for the difference, and the ledger exports as CSV with the transfer status on every line.

  • A default agency commission rate, applied when the brand pays.
  • Payouts settle into the agency Stripe account, not a Herd balance.
  • A CSV export of the whole commission ledger, transfer status included.
