The short version
Later is the better scheduler, and it publishes to more networks than Herd does. Herd is the better home for the business around the posting: the brand deal, the contract, the invoice and the money. If scheduling is all you need, Later is cheaper and does it well.
Later is run from Vancouver, Canada. It suits anyone whose whole job is scheduling social posts, especially across LinkedIn and Pinterest, where Later publishes and Herd does not.
Herd is a UK product with three sides in one account. Creators run content, deals, contracts and invoices. Brands run campaigns, review content and pay creator invoices by card. Agencies run a roster with commission splits and white-label client portals. Herd costs from £99/month for creators, billed in pounds. That breadth is the whole trade: Herd covers more of the week, and in a few places it covers it less thoroughly than Later does.
Feature by feature
Every line in the Herd column is a feature that works today. The Later column is what its own site and the listings we read showed on 21 September 2026: a dash means we could not find the feature there, and a plan name in the Herd column is the plan the feature starts on.

Where Later is stronger
Nothing below is a concession for the sake of looking fair. These are the parts of Later that Herd either does not have or does less well, and if one of them is the deciding factor for you, buy Later.
- Publishing to more networks than Herd, including LinkedIn and Pinterest, which Herd does not support.
- A visual planner with a grid preview. Herd has no grid preview.
- A link-in-bio page, which Herd does not have at all.
- Far cheaper as a scheduler: $18.75 a month billed annually against Herd Starter at £99.
- Post analytics.
What Herd adds
The other direction. These are jobs Herd covers that we could not find in Later's published feature list when we checked on 21 September 2026, taken from the same list as the table above, plus the differences in how the two are priced. Some of them sit on the higher Herd plans, and the pricing below says which.
- No deals pipeline, proposals, contracts or e-signature.
- No invoicing and no way to get paid.
- No Gmail or Outlook inbox. The social inbox only covers comments and DMs.
- No media kit or rate card.
- No brand campaign side and no agency commission or client portals.
- No expenses, cashflow or tax view.

Invoices and money
The invoice, the pay link and the payout in one place
An invoice in Herd is attached to the deal it came from and carries a card pay link, so the brand can settle it without a bank transfer form. What it is not is a general accounting package: Herd does not replace your accountant, and it does not track billable hours.
- Send real invoices with a card pay link from Starter upwards.
- On Pro, Stripe Connect settles the money into your own bank rather than a platform wallet.
- Expenses, cashflow and a tax view sit beside the invoices in Financials.
Herd and Later, asked and answered
- For Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X, yes. For LinkedIn, Pinterest and the other networks Later covers, no, because Herd does not publish to them. If those networks matter to you, Later still has to stay.
- No. Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed annually and Herd Starter is £99 a month. Herd costs more because it also handles the deals, the paperwork, the inbox and the invoices, not because the scheduler is better.
- Herd has a month and week calendar with drafts, but not Later’s grid preview for planning how a feed will look. That is a genuine gap if the visual grid is how you plan.
- Later manages social sets for client accounts. Herd Agency manages a creator roster with deals, contracts, commission splits and white-label client portals. They are solving different problems with the word "agency" in them.
